Police are staying tight lipped about the reason - with a spokesman saying the incident in King George’s Avenue is an “ongoing police operation”.

Residents report seeing a 'large' armed police presence, and the road has been closed.

At least 10 firearms officers were seen in the street.

The latest statement issued by Coventry Police said that the property in question was now being searched by officers, with the assistance of firearms officers.

Armed police arrest three people after siege in Foleshill street

Three people have been arrested after a dramatic armed siege closed a Coventry street.

At least ten officers, including heavily armed members of the West Midlands Police Operations Firearms Unit, raided the home in King George’s Avenue, Foleshill, on Friday afternoon.

The Telegraph was able to secure dramatic pictures from the road as it was cordoned off while police searched the house at about 3.15pm.

It was later reported that West Midlands Police recovered a firearm from the address during the search.

A 28-year-old man from Banbury, and a 25-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, both from Foleshill, were arrested and held on suspicion of possession of a firearm without a licence.
