Emmerdale tops Tuesday soap ratings

Emmerdale was Tuesday evening's most-watched soap (January 28) as its hour-long episode dented EastEnders, overnight figures show.

The ITV drama averaged 6.65m (30.0%) from 7pm on ITV and 277k (1.2%) on +1 as Cain turned violent against Charity in a failed attempt to force a confession out of her.

Losing out due to Emmerdale's head-start, EastEnders dipped to 5.13m (22.2%) at 7.30pm on BBC One as Shirley demanded to have her name put above the door of the Queen Vic.

During the 30-minute clash period itself, Emmerdale had 6.48m (28.2%). Later, BBC Three's repeat screening of EastEnders saw a boost with 717k (4.9%) watching at 10.30pm.

Elsewhere, Holby City pulled in 4.67m (21.0%) at 8pm on BBC One with Joe McFadden's first episode as Raf di Lucca.

Hollyoaks attracted 1.13m (5.5%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as fears mounted over Joe's disappearance, while E4's first look once again topped the multichannel ratings with 740k (3.5%) at 7pm and 163k (0.7%) on +1.

Over on Channel 5, Neighbours entertained 677k (9.4%) at 1.45pm and 828k (4.9%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away managed 231k (3.1%) at 1.15pm, 615k (3.2%) at 6pm and 494k (2.4%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.51m (21.1%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.
