'The Village' opens with big ratings on BBC One

John Simm and Maxine Peake's BBC One period drama The Village opened with large ratings on Easter Sunday (March 31), overnight data has revealed.

The ambitious project, which is aiming to tell the story of the 20th Century through a local village, launched with 6.35 million (25.9%) at 9pm.

Earlier in the evening, Countryfile pulled in 5.45 million (25.2%) and Antiques Roadshow had 5.06 million (21.1%) at 8pm. BBC Two's cult comedy It's Kevin had 359k (2.2%) at 10.30pm.

On ITV, an Andrew Lloyd Webber tribute show had 3.48 million (16.6%) at 6.30pm, while the latest Foyle's War intrigued 5.25 million (21.5%) at 8pm.

Channel 4's Easter Eggs Live pulled in 1.23 million (5.15%) at 8pm, while the second part of Labyrinth had 1.01 million (4.6%) at 9pm.

The latest Person of Interest had 919k (4.9%) at 10pm on Channel 5, while TOWIE on ITV2 had 849k (4.4%) in the same timeslot.

BBC Three's zombie drama In The Flesh ended with 525k (2.85) at 10pm.
