Barracks car park to reopen after repairs...

A crumbling car park in Coventry city centre will re-open this weekend following essential repairs.

The council decided it needed to cordon off the Barracks last month to speed up work to repair and renovate the ramps there.

Only the disabled spots and the Shop Mobility section have stayed open.

From tomorrow, half of the multi-storey will be open, with the other half off-limits til June.

Martin Yardley, Director of City Services and Development, said: “I would like to thank people for their patience while this work was underway. The full closure really enabled us to get on with the repairs more quickly and now, on schedule, about half the spaces are available again.”

I'm not aware that losing these parking spaces caused any trouble, so perhaps Flapdoodle has a point? Would the council have been better off saving the money and demolishing it?
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

I can't find the original article Rebbonk but I believe that of three options considered by the council (full rebuild, demolition and temporary repair) this option (temporary repair) was by far the cheapest, at least in the short term.

I'm biased myself as the Barracks Market is one of my earliest memories of Coventry. I couldn't have been more than three years old at the time.
