Coventry city centre management and promotions firm CV One is being axed under council budget cuts.

The news was broken to its 70 staff yesterday ahead of a Coventry City Council meeting to rubber-stamp the move.

CV One had already lost car parks and events to the city council, which now wants to bring all remaining services in-house.

Council chiefs said the “majority” of CV One staff would transfer over the next 12 to 18 months, but could not rule out redundancies.

Council leader John Mutton (Lab, Binley and Willenhall) told the Coventry Telegraph: “There may be some areas where we could be over manned.

“We have not sat down and discussed the full implications.

“I do not want to make any sweeping statements until we have looked at it very carefully.”

The council’s cabinet will debate the move on March 15 ahead of a full council meeting on March 22.

If approved, all remaining services provided by CV One, including tourist information, CCTV cameras and street cleaning would be taken over by the council by September 2012.

More than half of CV One’s £8m annual budget comes from the council.
