New Strictly Come Dancing host Josh Widdicombe has revealed he nearly turned down the high-profile gig. The comedian was announced earlier this week as one of Strictly's new trio of presenters alongside Emma Willis and Johannes Radebe.

Now, speaking on his Parenting Hell podcast, Josh shared that he had reservations about taking the job even before he had his first meeting with show producers.

"When the call came initially just for the meeting, I thought, 'I really like my life, would I want to throw it into flux?'" Josh said (via Independent).

"Because it’s a big thing, it’s a defining thing that you’re suddenly doing it. But I just thought, 'What an incredible thing to experience'."

Josh went on to say that he never expected to become the host of such a huge show when he began his stand-up career nearly 20 years ago.

"When I started out in stand-up, no one foresaw this. It’s wild. It’s one of the biggest shows in the 21st century, alongside I’m a Celeb," he added.

"I’m incredibly excited — there is a real fun vibe to the three of us, there is something for everyone, it’s the ultimate modern family. It feels weird now, as it’s four months away."

Following the unveiling of the new hosts, Josh said in a statement: "Dancing the Charleston dressed as a penguin for the 2024 Christmas Special of Strictly remains my career high point, so I am giddy with excitement, honoured and a little overawed to be given the chance to step into the biggest shoes in television.

"I adore Emma and Jojo and can't wait to spend my weekends with them. I'll dust off the penguin costume."

The new presenters have already been congratulated by former host Tess Daly who called them "the ultimate trio".

On Friday (22 May) the trio made their first public appearance together at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, where Johannes could even be seen lifting up Josh in one picture.
