The B4113 Pickard's Way/Wilsons Lane and the Longford Road Roundabout will be given a £6m upgrade
A busy Exhall junction is set to get a £6m upgrade to boost 'capacity and safety'. Major changes will be made to Wilsons Lane, on the B4113 Pickard's Way and at the Longford Road roundabout.
It comes after cabinet members at Warwickshire County Council approved the £6m plans, which will be paid for by developer MJ Coventry. The firm was given the go-ahead to build up to 73 homes and up to 55,750 sqm of employment/commercial floor space on land at Wilsons Lane/Pickard's Way (B4113) Wilsons Lane.
Part of the conditions of the planning permission was that the company cover the costs of providing a new signalised 'left in left out' (LILO) junction on the B4113 Pickard's Way and an emergency access on Wilsons Lane.
Also, to pay for a new third gyratory lane on Longford Road roundabout and a new toucan crossing. The shared cycleway and footway along Wilsons Lane will also be widened and extended.
The county council has said that the developer will cover the full cost of the works, including any potential changes or overruns, ensuring no financial impact on the council or local taxpayers.
Council leader, councillor George Finch said: "We are delighted to take this important step forward to improve junctions in Exhall. These developer-funded schemes are a great example of how we can secure significant investment to upgrade our local infrastructure.
"The scheme will not only provide the necessary capacity for the new development but will also deliver essential safety enhancements for all road users, including new crossings and improved cycleways. We're committed to ensuring that new developments bring tangible benefits to our communities, and this project is a perfect illustration of that commitment."
Having been given the seal of approval by the cabinet, the project needs to be rubber-stamped at a full council meeting on September 23. Once approved, work will start on the agreements needed to begin the scheme.
