A precious teddy bear gets a new lease of life
Roman Kemp will make a special appearance on The Repair Shop this festive season in a collaboration between the beloved programme and The One Show.
The One Show and radio host is set to appear on the Christmas Eve episode of The Repair Shop airing tomorrow (December 24). The show posted a preview on Twitter/X, promising a wholesome and emotional episode as a precious family heirloom gets fixed in time for Christmas.
A woman named Kat will have a teddy bear gifted to her from her late grandfather restored to its former, fluffy glory.
Roman will bring the stuffed animal to Teddy Bear Ladies, Amanda Middleditch and Julie Tatchell, who will help Kat preserve her childhood memories and pass the toy — battered after being mauled by the family's feisty dog — onto her four-year-old son Freddie.
The plushy toy will then get a new lease of life, with the team allowing Kat to fulfil her late dad's wish to repair the bear and gift it to Freddie, who last year cycled 100 miles to raise money for the hospital that cared for his sick grandad.
"It would mean the world to me to have him back and fixed because it was something my dad always wanted," Kat said in the clip, which you can watch above.
Kat's teddy is but one of the sentimental objects that are getting cared for on the festive special.
Dominic Chinea and Brenton West have been tasked to repair two giant fibreglass puffins gifted to a children's bookshop, while Will Kirk, Kirsten Ramsay, Steve Fletcher and Mark Stuckey will revive a miniature Christmas Village that lights up a family home for foster children.
Elsewhere, leather expert Suzie Fletcher is restoring a donkey saddle that's been handed down through four generations of farmers.
Finally, a 100-year-old magic lantern projector at the centre of a family's Christmas Eve tradition will get a makeover thanks to electronic whizz Mark Stuckey, musical instruments expert Pete Woods and camera repairer Pierro Pozella.
The Repair Shop At Christmas 2024 airs on December 24 at 8.15pm on BBC One and will be available to stream on iPlayer at the same time.
