Love Island has crowned its winning couple for the 10th series, with Jess Harding & Sammy Root coming out on top in the public vote and securing the £50,000 cash prize.

The pair triumphed in the finale over Whitney Adebayo & Lochan Nowacki, Ella Thomas & Tyrique Hyde and Molly Marsh & Zachariah Noble, who finished in second, third and fourth place respectively.

"I thought I was going to be here a couple of days, then in and out of the door," said Sammy after the result was announced, with Jess adding that she "couldn't believe it".

The result proved to be a surprising one, with Whitney and Lochan being the strong bookmakers favourites heading into the final.

The shock nature of the result was reflected on social media, with several viewers taking to Twitter to express their surprise at the victors.

"I’m not even mad but this is actually such a shocking result LOL #LoveIsland," wrote one fan, before adding: "I don’t think anyone could’ve predicted this result order."

Jess and Sammy have been mainstays on the Island throughout the series, with the former being the first contestant to enter the villa this year; Sammy subsequently joined on Day 4.

Despite testing the waters with other Islanders, Sammy realised his heart was set on Jess during Casa Amor, which saw him feel guilty after recoupling while she remained single.

Whilst the pair can now explore their relationship on the outside, plans for the future of Love Island are already underway, with producers reportedly considering the idea of an All-Star cast for future series'.

Love Island airs on ITV2 and streams on ITVX.
