Events have been cancelled in Nuneaton and Bedworth as a mark of respect to Queen Elizabeth II. Following the passing of the monarch, decisions have been made to cancel planned events across the borough.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council will not hold any meetings, including the forthcoming full council meeting on Wednesday (September 14), until after The Queen's funeral.

Nuneaton and Bedworth's Mayor, councillor Jeff Clarke, may also revise some of the events that he attends. Nuneaton and District Sunday Football League (NDSFL) has also cancelled all planned matches this Sunday (September 11) as a mark of respect to the longest serving monarch in British history.

Many junior and grassroots football matches and sessions across the two towns have also been cancelled this weekend, some until after the funeral itself. Further could follow once full details are confirmed for the Queen's funeral.

It is known that The Town Hall will be closed for business on the national day of mourning when that is announced.

Those who wish to lay floral tributes can either take them to the George Eliot Gardens, which is based behind the Town Hall, where a dedicated site for floral tributes or expressions of grief has been identified.

In Bedworth, people can lay flowers on the grassed area by the Frank Parsons Memorial, in the town centre. The Union Flag is now flying at half-mast and will do so until 2pm on Sunday when the proclamation will be read from the Town Hall steps.

Following this, books of condolence will be opened at both the Town Hall in Nuneaton and also the Civic Hall in Bedworth and St James's Church in Bulkington to leave their own personal messages and tributes. The Union flag will remain at full mast until Monday, September 12 when it will once again be lowered to half-mast and will remain so until after the funeral of her late majesty.
