Culworth Court in Foleshill is a "hotspot" for anti-social behaviour according to residents

Part of Coventry is turning into a "third-world ghetto" according to disgruntled residents - who say they are being plagued by rats, people using the street as a makeshift toilet and endless fly-tipping. One resident of Culworth Court in Foleshill said the area has also become a hotspot for anti-social behaviour, after a giant heap of rubbish was left dumped on a corner for almost a week.

The mountain of mess included mattresses, sofas, a fridge, overflowing bin bags stuffed in trollies and even an abandoned caravan. Part of the pile, which first appeared on August 10, was cleared away yesterday and the caravan is also gone.

But now two garages are full of rubbish and more can be seen tucked away behind them.

"I'll give it a couple of days and there'll be more dumped where that cleared bin area is," said the resident who wanted to stay anonymous. "I've lived here 38 years, these last five years have been a living nightmare," they said.

The resident added rats are "everywhere" and anti-social behaviour is "intimidating." They've also seen people urinating in public outside the flats. The problem has become so bad that a number of tenants now won't leave the flats through the main entrance/exit during the day, the resident said.

"This part of Foleshill has become a third world ghetto!" they added.

Long-term Foleshill resident Danielle Pink runs a Facebook group for people living in the area. She added Culworth Court is a "hot subject" and while she doesn't live there herself, some of the posts she's seen about the flats are "shocking."

Problems include "people toileting on the grounds, dangerous levels of fly tipping, rat infestation, gas canisters left out and fires started on the grounds." She added that It leaves people feeling uncomfortable, anxious and vulnerable.

Despite residents paying site fees, "the land they are living on has been a dangerous dirty trash pile with crowd of anti social behaviour," she said. "It's not something people can be proud of and it's just a shame as there are still many people who clearly care about the area."

"Foleshill could do with some help .. and culworth court really needs to be sorted out."

Management company Marstons told her they are looking into the issue, she said. They did not respond to a request for comment.

A spokesperson for Coventry City Council said: "The Council is aware of reoccurring issues at the site. We have served notices on individual owners of flats and garages and also on the freeholder for the whole site, as well as the managing agents for the site.

"We are currently working with the managing agents and the owners to look at a long term solution regarding the flytipping on the site. We are also working closely with partners from several organisations, including the Police and Fire Service to look to address some of the sites ongoing issues around anti-social behaviour.

"Most of the referrals regarding the site come from Council officers whilst on patrol or anonymous complaints from locals nearby as they pass the site on Foleshill Road."

This part of Spon End isn't much better but what puzzles me is that Citizen employ an army of caretakers who are supposed to clean up the estate?

Sorry to disagree, but this is wrong. Blame the people. Let's stop being silly, let's start being honest. People are causing this issue. :fuming: :fuming: :fuming:
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

Fury as piles of rubbish dumped across Coventry in spate of fly-tipping

Sofas and mattresses were among rubbish dumped on the streets of Coventry in a spate of fly-tipping. Mounds of waste were spotted across different locations in the city on Wednesday (September 22).

Photos show old sofas, broken armchairs, mattresses, cardboard boxes and black bin bags discarded at the roadside. The fly tipped items were found along Foleshill Road, Princess Street, Cross Road and Crossley Court.

The images were all taken within a day, showing the extent of fly-tipping across the city. The rubbish was spotted by a member of local litter picking group Coventry North West Wombles, who uploaded the photos on Facebook.

Mel Robertson often volunteers with the team of dedicated residents, who are committed to keeping the streets of Coventry cleaner for all. However, she said fly-tipping is 'always' apparent along Cross Road - and claims that it is an ongoing problem.

In the Facebook post, she wrote: "Cross Road, this is always here. The council stick a sign on it then leave it. Reported again to Fix My Street."

Earlier this month, the local litter picking group spotted piles of rubbish on an alleyway in Coventry and attempted to clean up the area. Images showed a black sofa chair, a white mattress, tool boxes, water bottles, aerosol cans, food packing and plastic bags among the discarded trash.
