Man, 65, in court over Coventry Co-op stabbing

A 65-year-old man accused of stabbing a Co-op store worker in Coventry has appeared in court. Eric Llewellyn, of Lyndale Road in Whoberley, was charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding Julie Holmes with intent to do her grievous bodily harm after an incident on Saturday (August 13).

Llewellyn is also charged with possessing an offensive weapon - a lock knife - in a public place, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse. Ms Holmes, who is in her 60s, suffered hand and back injuries while working at the Co-op in Allesley Old Road.

Llewellyn appeared at Coventry Magistrates' Court on Monday (August 15), with the court hearing that he allegedly attacked Ms Holmes as she was working in the shop, causing her "very severe injuries".

"[Mr Llewellyn] was armed with a lock knife and stabbed her repeatedly," said crown prosecution lawyer Gez Newsome.

District Judge Mehta stated that he will formally send the case to Warwick Crown Court with a plea hearing set for Thursday, September 8.

Llewellyn was remanded in custody.
