A Christmas market in Coventry city centre has been cancelled.

Spon Street Market was set to take place for a second successive Sunday today but organisers were forced to cancel the event this morning.

A post on social media read: "Due to high winds with deep regret we are going to cancel today's market due to the wind affecting the set up of the stalls. We're sorry for any inconvenience or if your plans have been affected.

"Thanks for understanding. The market team."

The market in Spon Street has been held on a monthly basis since May, hosting producers and makers from the Coventry and Warwickshire area.

There will be one more opportunity this year to get some pre-Christmas shopping done at the market when it returns on Sunday, December 19.

I wasn't aware of any high winds this morning?

I'd say it's more likely some council official didn't want to get out of bed. :fuming:

Christmas market returns to sign off first year 'with a bang' this weekend

Spon Street Market is aiming to sign off a positive first year with a bang at its final festive event this weekend.

High winds earlier this month prompted the cancellation of one of three Christmas-themed events but the last of the trilogy is due to take place on Sunday, December 19 from 10am until 4pm.

The monthly markets have been held in Spon Street since May selling food and produce from independent businesses in the Coventry and Warwickshire area.

"We're hoping to end a positive first year with a bang," said event organiser Luke Truslove. "When we first started the market earlier this year, it was always our hope that we could deliver a special Christmas market for people to do their shopping and know they are supporting local companies.

"Sadly, we had no choice but to cancel the event earlier this month due to matters outside of our control but the traders are back and there's a really strong mix of food and produce up for grabs.

The confirmed food and drink providers are; Sweeney's Pizza, Barley Bakery, Boxx n Bar (vegan street food), Bad Boy Burgers, Heavenly Currys (Indian starters), Fabulous Fudge, Brownie Box, Cabuccinos (hot drinks), Darkside Ciders, Seriously Dough, Warwickshire Gin, St Maur (elderflower liquer), Yankee Waffle House, Dreamcakes (cheesecakes), Queso (cheeses), Proof Bakery, Blabershall Wines, Caravan at the Cottage (street food), Rooroos Chocolate and Dhillons Brewery.

A Welsh voice choir will be in attendance to add to the festive feel as people look for last minute presents or just to treat themselves from the following stalls:
