Boxer Amir Khan has been criticised after being spotted at a Coventry restaurant police issued advice to over lockdown rules at the weekend.

Officers from West Midlands Police attended The Farmhouse in Beechwood Avenue on Saturday, February 6 after a call from a member of the public.

They found that a click and collect food service was being lawfully run by a business and no offences were being committed.

However they did offer advice to the restaurant owner to ensure people moved on after collecting their food as there was a queue of cars.

And The Farmhouse posted a picture of Amir Khan outside the restaurant that evening.

In a post on Instagram, which has since been deleted, they said: “We were very busy yesterday for our Exclusive Drive Thru but the highlight of the night was Amir Khan came through yesterday!

“Very nice, humble brother and he loved the Drive Thru.”

Mr Khan came in for criticism for travelling to the restaurant in Coventry. He is reported to live in a £1.3m mansion in his hometown of Bolton.

The Greater Manchester town is a 115 mile trip from Coventry.

Current coronavirus restrictions state that people should not leave their homes other than for essential purposes including work, if they cannot work from home, essential shopping, health reasons or for exercise, which should be undertaken in their local area.

The now deleted picture also appeared to show the boxer with his arms around two men - none of who were wearing masks.
