His condition was described this morning as “critical.”

Spon End man jailed after stabbing at Nuneaton pub The Prince

A MAN who left a dad fighting for his life after stabbing him in the neck has been sent to jail for 16 years.

Daniel Elvis Grantham, from Coventry, attacked Craig Hurst, at The Prince in Stockingford, Nuneaton, last September.

Mr Hurst suffered a serious stab wound and had to have emergency surgery.

The quick actions of the landlord and customers in getting him to hospital saved his life.

Grantham, 32, of Sherbourne Street, Spon End, was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after an 11-day trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

He was cleared of attempted murder. After awaiting probationary reports, Judge Patrick Thomas QC announced the prison sentence while sitting at Stafford Crown Court.

He was told that Grantham had 19 separate sets of previous convictions for a total of 93 offences, dating back to 1992 and including robbery, affray and assault with weapons.

Thug who stabbed man in the neck in pub walked out of 'open prison'

A violent Coventry man who stabbed a dad in the neck and left him fighting for his life walked out of an open prison where he had been sent in preparation for his release.

Daniel Grantham had served almost nine years of an indeterminate jail sentence when he simply walked out of HMP Spring Hill - described as a prison with "with no physical barriers".

Grantham was arrested five days later at an address in Aldermans Green and at Warwick Crown Court he pleaded guilty to escaping from lawful custody.

The 41-year-old, previously of Sherbourne Street, Spon End, was jailed for eight months.

Judge Anthony Potter pointed out he could not make it consecutive to the indeterminate sentence for public protection Grantham is still serving – but that the offence would inevitably delay his release from that sentence.

Contradiction there between the previous article and the current one.

Was he sentenced to 16 years or was it indeterminate?
