Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd was pleased with the performance of his latest recruits in the friendly at Shrewsbury Town.
Lee Carsley and Lukas Jutkiewicz played for more than an hour in the goalless draw on Tuesday night.
Boothroyd told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "I was really pleased with their contribution.
"I thought we were the stronger team probably until those two boys ran out of steam really."
Sky Blues goalkeeper Keiren Westwood saved a second-half penalty to ensure City kept a sixth straight clean sheet in pre-season fixtures.
