A Toyota Verso struck the pedestrian on Tamworth Road, near the junction of Waste Lane, at about 18:10 BST on Thursday.

She was taken to hospital, where she died in the early hours of Monday, West Midlands Police said.

The 53-year-old driver of the car, who remained at the scene but needed medical treatment, will be spoken to in due course, the force said.

The girl's family are being supported by officers as the police investigation continues.

The force said it was keen to hear from anyone with dashcam footage, or who was in the area at the time.

Man charged over death of 11-year-old girl killed in Coventry

A man has been charged with killing an 11-year-old who died after being hit by a car in Coventry.

Isabelle Boshell died in hospital four days after a collision in Tamworth Road, Keresley, in October last year.

An arrest was made at the time and West Midlands Police has today stated that a charge has been made.

A spokesman for the force said: "A man has been charged over the collision which killed 11-year-old Isabelle Boshell in Coventry.

"Ola Onubogu is accused of causing death by careless driving in Tamworth Road last October.

"The 53-year-old, of Wappenbury Road, Wood End, has been bailed to appear before Coventry Magistrates' Court on March 31.

"Schoolgirl Isabelle was struck by a Toyota Verso on October 22 but sadly died from her injuries four days later in hospital."

The news comes about a week after Isabelle's family revealed that thieves had broken in to her father's car and stolen a Nintendo Switch that belonged to Isabelle.

Her dad, Matthew Boshell, kept it in his car because it helps him to feel closer to his daughter while he is working away from home.

The attack on the car happened at the family's home in Bridgeman Road, Radford, the early hours of Sunday, February 28, and was caught on the family's CCTV system.

Speeding driver who killed 11-year-old Isabelle Boshell in Coventry avoids jail

Image

A SPEEDING driver who was rushing home from work when he hit and killed a young girl as she ran across the road in front of him has avoided jail.

And 11-year-old Isabelle Boshell’s irate father stormed out of court when he realised a judge at Warwick Crown Court was about to give driver Ola Onubogu a suspended sentence.

Onubogu,54, of Wappenbury Road, Wood End, Coventry, had pleaded guilty to causing Isabelle’s death in October last year by careless driving.

He was sentenced to six months in prison suspended for two years, ordered to do 120 hours of unpaid work and banned from driving for 15 months.

Sentencing Onubogu, Judge Anthony Potter told him: “There is nothing you can do and nothing I can do that can possibly take away the pain Isabelle’s family suffer and will continue to suffer for the rest of their lives.

“You accept you were travelling at greater than the speed limit… and at a stage where you approached where Isabelle was walking there is a pedestrian crossing and ‘slow’ painted on the surface.

“She came from the right side, running between traffic behind a van, and because of your speed you were unable to stop.

“You are a parent yourself. It is impossible to imagine what goes through a parent’s mind when they are faced with the decision on whether they should allow life support to be withdrawn – and they had to make that decision.

“There are no words that could possibly express the loss the Boshell family has suffered.

“Had you obeyed the speed limit on that road, no matter how unpredictable Isabelle’s actions might have been, you would have been able to avoid that accident.”

Judge Potter said the offence ‘plainly crosses the custody threshold,’ but that there was strong mitigation which moved it towards a suspended sentence.

Without waiting to hear the sentence, Mr Boshell threw his statement to the floor in front of the judge and stormed out of court, declaring: “What a s**t show.”

He was followed by another family member who commented as she left: “I hope you’ve got a little girl of the same age.”

Image

The family of an 11-year-old girl killed in Coventry have unveiled a memorial bench in her honour.

Isabelle Boshell was hit by a car in Keresley in October last year and died a few days later in hospital.

A large number of her family and friends gathered on Saturday (August 7) to unveil the bench which is taking pride of place at Coundon Hall Park.

The bench is engraved with the message "In loving memory from all her friends and family. You will always be in our hearts", just below four silver stars.

Her father Matt said: "Friends, family, everybody has made the effort to come out today to see the unveiling of the Isabelle memorial bench.

"Thank you to everyone who made it possible - the city council, City Fibre, friends and family. It's here now to be enjoyed for years to come by her friends.

"We have some things, few and far between, that keep us smiling and this is definitely one of them."

After the bench was unveiled there was also a balloon release in honour of Isabelle.
