In the mid 1990s, most of the freight that passed through Coventry's night-time freight hub was transported aboard vintage propliners, including Vickers Viscounts and at the time, the world's last operational Vickers Vanguard.
The frenzied, nocturnal, propliner activities which took place from this humble, ramshackle rural location, were captured by aviation videographer Henry Tenby, during several visits in 1995 and 1996. This DVD program features 116 solid minutes of ear-piercing Viscount and Vanguard action, with lots of start ups, taxiing aircraft, landings and take-offs, and engine shut downs. Professionally filmed up close (with tripod) on the apron at Coventry, during busy night-time freight operations.
We also go for a cockpit flight on the world's last in-service Vickers Vanguard (Hunting Cargo's G-APEP) from Liverpool to Belfast, as well as a day-time flight on British World Viscount G-BFZL from Belfast to Coventry, with footage from both the cabin and the flight-deck. Who can ever forget the sound of four Darts or Tynes winding up, or throttling up for take-off power. This DVD forever preserves the memories of these wonderful, graceful British marques.
