A much-loved Coventry pub will be closing for good on Sunday (February 11). The Roseycombe Pub in Binley Woods has stood proudly in the city since 1935.

Owner Alma Bye, 79, has been at the helm of the much the popular city-based pub since 2008. She said over the past few years they have faced an 'uphill battle.'

Alma said she took the difficult decision to close due to rising costs which meant that running the boozer was 'no longer viable.' She also said that things 'completely changed' after Covid.

Owner Alma Goadsby told CoventryLive: “We have got lovely customers, young and old mixed together which is good and the younger lads show us all respect, I have never had a problem really with people, it is so lovely.”

Alma said they are likely to be 'very busy' over the weekend as people say their goodbyes on Saturday and Sunday (February 10 and 11). “We have got good clientele around here that do visit us so that is good,” she said.

Alma went on to issue a stark warning to people, saying: “If you do not use it, you will lose it. It is very true, there are a lot of houses here, and things could have been a lot different but that is it unfortunately.”

Pubgoers said they were 'saddened' to hear that the much-loved pub will soon be closing and reminisced on Facebook. Claire Quinn said: “Such sad news but every good wish Alma for what lies ahead. You will be greatly missed.”

Cat McHugh said: “Alma you and your family have run such an amazing pub! I will never forget the great times! Now some time for yourself, try and enjoy it as you deserve to.”

Naomi Elcock commented: “What a momentous journey you have had. Sad news however you should be very proud of all you have achieved. Enjoy the rest and your onward adventures.”

Elaine McNamee wrote: “You have all worked so hard and done brilliant things for your community, as well as being a hub and home for all. A legacy to be very proud of.”

Anne Hardy commented: “Sorry to hear this sad news but understand the reasons why, good luck for the future Alma and amazing team, you will certainly be missed by all.”

Tony Jacques said: “So sorry to hear your news, a very sad day. All the best for the future and thank you for your years of service, support and friendship you will all be missed.”

A much-loved Coventry pub has gone up for lease after closing its doors in February. The Roseycombe Pub, on Rugby Road, can be leased for a yearly fee of just under £40,000.

The Roseycombe Pub has stood proudly in Binley Woods since the 1930s. It closed earlier this year as rising costs meant that running the decades-old boozer was 'no longer viable.'

Landlady Alma Bye had been the face behind The Roseycombe since 2008. She said running the much-loved pub in recent years was an 'uphill battle' after they were 'killed' by Covid.

The Roseycombe Pub has now hit the market and can be leased for a yearly fee of £39,702. Pubgoers are said to mostly be 'employed mature and midlife adults.'

A listing on Find My Pub says The Roseycombe 'benefits from being one of three pubs found in an area of around 1676 adults.' It is said to have an estimated annual turnover of £589,329.

Inside there is a large open-plan space, a catering kitchen, a dining area and a garden room, says Find My Pub. It also has a large garden and a car park with 40 spaces at the front of the building on Rugby Road.

Bosses say the decades-old boozer can drive trade through pub games and live sports, which are shown on Sky Sports. Accommodation is also included and consists of three bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom, says Find My Pub.

Landlords are looking for someone with 'extensive experience in a similar hospitality business.' It is hoped they will have a vision for their marketing strategy and food and drinks menu and can 'create a memorable experience for their customers.'
