I remember stripping engines down in those workshops as part of the aero engineering course run by Norman (Biggles) Ricketts.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

This is the reverse angle of the original picture taken from the top of the then new George Poole House tower block in 1963 showing the Technical College and its workshops. Note the gap where some of the shops in the original picture had been although Union Place survives along with the Union Arms on either side of Hope Street.
