Coventry and Warwickshire benefit building society

I came across this society today whilst researching something totally unrelated.

The advert dates from about 1976 and claims that the society was established in 1848 and is Coventry's oldest local (building??) society. The registered office was 23, Bayley lane and the picture looks like what I remember as Browetts solicitors.

I had never heard of this, anyone know anything about it?

Doesn't ring a bell at all I'm afraid Rebbonk - I wonder if the Coventry B.S. - which started out life as The Coventry Economic B.S. merged with it :?:

Wasn't there also a "Coventry Friendly Society" which merged with the Coventry Economic to form the currrent building society?

Thanks

At the same time (1976) I have a book listing the Cov' Economic and the Cov' Provident as well as this one.

It's not that important, it was just something that I had never come across before.

Appears it was absorbed into Midshires BS in 1978

http://mutuals.fsa.gov.uk/SocietyDetails.aspx?Number=147&Suffix=B

Which was absorbed into Birmingham Midshires BS

http://mutuals.fsa.gov.uk/SocietyDetails.aspx?Number=465&Suffix=B

Which was absorbed into the Halifax

http://mutuals.fsa.gov.uk/SocietyDetails.aspx?Number=738&Suffix=B

Which in turn became part of HBOS

Which is now part of Lloyds banking group
