I think those black and white posts were originally planted to stop traffic driving any further up Smithford Street while Broadgate House was being built? I also think it was possible to visit the Barracks Market through that tunnel between the shops?

The waitress taking orders in the Godiva Cafe was my 'girlfriend' Tina. I was seven years old at the time, she was twenty-two! It was the subject of great hilarity among her friends.

Note also cars were still allowed to park in Market Street/Market Way back then. It was planned at one time to allow them to drive all the way to Corporation Street through what was known at the time as "Market Street North" but later became Smithfield Way. Would be interesting to know if people think that was a better idea than turning it into what effectively became a pedestrianised 'dead end' which few people seem to use?

I think your right the cars seemed to flow better then than now they should of left it as it was.

That brings back a few memories

Taken on a Sunday from the looks of it as there aren't many people about. It's also a bit later than 1965 as Mercia House in under construction at the bottom of the precinct, circa 1967 I think?

I'm not sure about it being a Sunday Dutchman. There's a Midland Red bus in the early footage, I have an idea (I might be wrong) that Midland Red didn't run on a Sunday.
