A much-loved Coventry pub will be closing for good on Sunday (February 11). The Roseycombe Pub in Binley Woods has stood proudly in the city since 1935.

Owner Alma Bye, 79, has been at the helm of the much the popular city-based pub since 2008. She said over the past few years they have faced an 'uphill battle.'

Alma said she took the difficult decision to close due to rising costs which meant that running the boozer was 'no longer viable.' She also said that things 'completely changed' after Covid.

Owner Alma Goadsby told CoventryLive: “We have got lovely customers, young and old mixed together which is good and the younger lads show us all respect, I have never had a problem really with people, it is so lovely.”

Alma said they are likely to be 'very busy' over the weekend as people say their goodbyes on Saturday and Sunday (February 10 and 11). “We have got good clientele around here that do visit us so that is good,” she said.

Alma went on to issue a stark warning to people, saying: “If you do not use it, you will lose it. It is very true, there are a lot of houses here, and things could have been a lot different but that is it unfortunately.”

Pubgoers said they were 'saddened' to hear that the much-loved pub will soon be closing and reminisced on Facebook. Claire Quinn said: “Such sad news but every good wish Alma for what lies ahead. You will be greatly missed.”

Cat McHugh said: “Alma you and your family have run such an amazing pub! I will never forget the great times! Now some time for yourself, try and enjoy it as you deserve to.”

Naomi Elcock commented: “What a momentous journey you have had. Sad news however you should be very proud of all you have achieved. Enjoy the rest and your onward adventures.”

Elaine McNamee wrote: “You have all worked so hard and done brilliant things for your community, as well as being a hub and home for all. A legacy to be very proud of.”

Anne Hardy commented: “Sorry to hear this sad news but understand the reasons why, good luck for the future Alma and amazing team, you will certainly be missed by all.”

Tony Jacques said: “So sorry to hear your news, a very sad day. All the best for the future and thank you for your years of service, support and friendship you will all be missed.”
