Drove past The Court House public house on Wednesday - well, I would have done had it still been there
So recently we've lost The Peacock, The Caludon, The Hope & Anchor, The Greyhound, The Court House
Saved but converted - The Fletch, The Binley Oak
Still awaiting work - The Rose & Woodbine
Saved for the World Cup - The Rocket, The Beer Engine
Maybe I've missed some others
Where will it all end?

So sad that all these places are closing down!!
A good news story from my neck of the woods - a local village pub was abandoned by the landlord - and the villagers clubbed together and bought it - here's the story

The Malt Shovel (circa 1808) in Spon End has been closed for a while but there are signs that the exterior is about to be renovated at least.
In the old part of Chapelfields there are quite a few pubs which closed early in the 20th Century and have been succesfully used as domestic homes ever since.

Another one under threat is the Poachers Retreat

Good find MR
John Ashby's reference book doesn't cover the outlying parts of Coventry so I had no idea it was previously called "The Standard". It wouldn't surprise me if its customers carried on calling it by that name long after it was officially changed.

Oops! Got my pubs mixed up, between the Standard and the Herald - my post now amended above!
Sorry

Okay, thanks MR
Hockley Lane. Name changed from The Standard to the Poachers Arms in 1983. It's a shame someone thought it necessary to erase the link with the motor industry.

An application has been made to build a 42-bed care home on the site of the Herald.
On a positive note there were signs of reoccupation at the Butts Retreat when I last passed it.
