I don't think so Rebbonk? It was probably part of the former Alpha motor works which was owned at one point by Morris. I think the name on the gate just read "A.H Herbert & Son".

Gets more interesting.... it appears that Alfred Herbert only had daughters (4). The Herbert I referred to above was his elder brother William.

I wouldn't swear to the exact wording, it was 1967 when I last saw the gates My stepbrother was apprenticed there and I lived almost opposite. The works may have been the former brass foundry? All official maps of the period are wrong.

The Alpha works is well documented. It covered a large area behind the buildings on the north side of Gosford Street. Alpha Motors failed and at least one part of it was taken over by William Morris who manufactured gearboxes there. When Morris quit, that part of the works was taken over by Pattison's who also made machine tools. What happened to the rest of the former Alpha works is less well documented.
