Coventry delivery driver doing 30mph on e-bike arrested on immigration offences

A Coventry delivery driver was found to have broken immigration laws after being seen by police doing 30mph on an e-bike. Officers spotted the bike being driven erratically on Wednesday.

Not only was the ebike being driven dangerously, the rider had no tax or insurance - which police say were needed as the power of the bike essentially rendered it a motor vehicle.

It also transpired the rider was breaking immigration law resulting in an arrest - but only after he'd tried fleeing on foot.

A spokesman for Coventry Police said: "This rider likes to deliver fast food, so fast you don't see his legs pedalling when doing 30mph. This is no longer an e bike but a motor vehicle, no tax, no insurance, no licence, no bike.

"One arrested for immigration offences. Apologies to whoever did not get their delivery."

The vehicle was subsequently seized and towed away. More information on the incident was shared on Holbrooks, Radford, Sherbourne & Bablake Neighbourhood Police team's WMNow updates page.

It reads: "We recovered an electric bicycle being ridden by a male erratically. The officers tried to stop the male to talk to him and he ran off. After a short foot chase and area search the male was arrested for suspected immigration offences."

Note: no name or address given?

Also, how many coppers rely on Just Eat, Deliveroo, etc for their own takeaways? Are they going to arrest them too?

I keep hearing about all these immigration arrests, but I never see any follow-up stories. I find it very frustrating that I don't see the final outcome of those who break our laws and abuse our generous hospitality.

Of course, it may simply be that they are returned, uncharged, to their 4* hotels and advised not to do it again! :fuming: :fuming: :fuming:

Indian and Pakistani men arrested on suspicion of working illegally in Coventry

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of working illegally in Coventry. Both were detained in the city on Thursday (July 17).

Officials from the Home Office teamed up with Coventry Police. One Pakistani and one Indian national were found to have breached the conditions of their visas by illegally working.

At the time of writing, the Pakistani man had been detained, and the Indian national had been released under strict reporting conditions, the Home Office said. Both have been warned they will be removed from the UK.
