It's all smoke and mirrors.

You can bet your life that they've stacked the dice in their favour and it won't affect their profits negatively.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

I had a bit of a surprise passing the BP station in the Butts yesterday, all the fuel pumps had gone! There was a strong smell of petrol on the forecourt the last time I passed there so maybe they had a leak and are now replacing everything? The all-night Costcutter store is still open on the site, you'd be surprised how much custom they get from nearby residents.

Petrol prices in Coventry hit two year high at the forecourts

Image

There's bad news for Coventry motorists this month - because fuel prices have hit a two year high.

A litre of petrol is now on average 120.01p while diesel is at 122.30p, up from 111.17p and 111.93p respectively in August last year.

Filling up a 55-litre family petrol car is £9.53 more expensive now than a year ago.

Diesel vehicles have been even harder hit, with the average family car costing £11.69 more to fill up.

Campaigners from FairFuelUK have slammed the latest increase as “opportunist profiteering”.

Commenting on the increasing cost of fuel, RAC Fuel Watch spokesman Simon Williams said: “The price of petrol and diesel reached a two-year high at the beginning of February and has remained at this level with yesterday’s (Feb 14) average forecourt prices of £1.20 for unleaded and £1.22 for diesel - the highest price we have seen since December 2014."

Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Tesco to slash fuel cost from today

There's good news for Coventry motorists today.

Drivers across the city will be able to take advantage of lower petrol prices from May 4.

Three of the biggest supermarkets in the city and throughout Warwickshire is slashing the price at the pumps.

Motorists will see two pence per litre shaved off diesel at Sainsbury's, Tesco and Morrison's.

And drivers can also take advantage of a one pence per litre reduction on petrol.

The deal is available across all supermarket forecourts, the retailers have confirmed.

Asda and Sainsbury's cut petrol pump prices by 2p per litre

Asda is cutting up to 2p per litre off its fuel prices after motoring groups claimed retailers were failing to pass on savings following the oil price slump.

The supermarket giant will lower a price cap at its 305 filling stations to 111.7p per litre for unleaded and diesel from Friday.

Sainsbury's, which operates stores across Coventry, confirmed it would be doing the same.

Last week the RAC claimed forecourt prices for diesel could be slashed by about 4p per litre while 2p could be taken off unleaded due to a fall in wholesale costs.

Oil dropped to 47 US dollars (£36) a barrel on Thursday, down 13% from May 23.

RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams described Asda's announcement as "excellent news".

He said: "It should now encourage every other retailer to follow suit and lead to a much-needed price-cut chain reaction across the country.

"While the value of the pound has fallen since the election, the price of oil has also reduced, bringing down wholesale fuel costs which should rightly be passed on to motorists at the pumps.

"Unfortunately, a cut to the price of diesel is long overdue as its wholesale price has been lower than petrol's for weeks, with little reflection of this on the forecourt.

"Hopefully, this will be the start of greater diesel price transparency."

AA spokesman Luke Bosdet said: "UK average petrol prices have been stuck at around 116.5p a litre for the past six weeks and drivers were wondering when they were going to see the benefit of lower oil prices.

"Asda's move will hopefully break the logjam."

Asda's head of petrol trading Dave Tyrer said: "Today's latest move shows that Asda is once again leading the way in reducing the price at the pumps to help the millions of motorists across the UK.

"Our new national price cap of 111.7p per litre on both unleaded and diesel will be welcomed by the millions of drivers who will be starting to plan their summer holidays."

Izzy Hexter, Sainsbury’s fuel buying manager, said: “This is a great piece of news for our customers ahead of what promises to be a warm weekend.

"We always aim to provide our customers with fantastic prices and great quality across all of our products and services, so we hope this price drop will help them keep costs down in the run up to summer holidays.”

As usual, customers will also be able to collect Nectar points on every fill-up, one point on every litre purchased.

Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrisons announce fuel price cut...after three months quietly raising pump costs

Supermarket giants have cut fuel costs following a series of price hikes in the wake of extreme weather.

Asda was the first to announce a cut of up to 2p per litre (ppl) for unleaded and 1ppl for diesel, bringing its national price cap down to 15.7p per litre on unleaded and 116.7p per litre on diesel.

This price reduction was matched by Sainsbury's, while Morrisons said it would cut the cost of both fuels by up 2ppl.

But while they were quick to announce the reductions the supermarket giant were not so vocal about the several pence that they have added to pump prices over the last three months.

In fact, despite the reduction the Asda price for diesel is still six pence higher than it was in June.

Unleaded petrol, and diesel prices have shot up in recent weeks as a result of Hurricane Harvey disrupting oil refining in Texas, whereas diesel has become more expensive as the price of a barrel of oil has increased over the past week.

It is the recovering value of the pound against the US dollar that has helped bring about this respite for drivers.

RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said: "This is some very welcome relief for motorists who have suffered a 3p a litre rise in the average price of petrol since mid-August as a result of Storm Harvey hitting the US Gulf Coast and disrupting refineries.

"Motorists are now paying nearly 120p a litre for unleaded, the highest since March, while the average price at the big four supermarkets is 117p.

"This latest cut from the supermarkets should force forecourt reductions across the country, hopefully bringing prices down by 2p a litre everywhere."

I couldn't help noticing that the price of some items in Morrisons had increased massively to compensate!

Morrisons launch Black Friday deal by slashing the cost of fuel

Image

If you're filling up today, you may want to head to Morrisons.

The supermarket giant operates multiple stores across Coventry.

Among these is the store in Lower Holyhead Road, with a petrol garage to boot.

On Black Friday, drivers will also benefit from savings with the price of fuel cut at petrol stations.

Morrisons is reducing the price of fuel by 10p-a-litre for its customers.

For a typical 50 litre car, this means that motorists will save £5 every time they fill their car up.

The chain says it is making the cuts to help motorists with the cost of diesel and unleaded in the big spending run-up to Christmas.

Steve Mosey, Morrisons Services Director, said: “Motorists could face a triple-whammy of rising petrol prices, extra fuel tax and a busy Christmas shopping season so we’re doing what we can to help them afford to run their cars.”

However, there is a catch - you must shop at Morrisons first to claim the offer.

The Black Five Days Fuel will be available to customers who spend £50 in Morrisons stores (not online), from Monday 20 November until Sunday 26 November.

Customers will then receive a voucher that will allow them to pay the lower price between Monday 20 November and Sunday 3 December.

The BP station in The Butts is now an Esso station! All the signs have been changed and the prices have risen a few pennies, presumably to pay for all the new plastic signs.

New prices:
Petrol 122p
Diesel 125p
