Covid passports planned in time for England’s autumn wave

Image

Covid-19 certificates will be required for customers to enter bars, restaurants and nightclubs under plans to tackle a fourth wave of the virus in a move that experts hope will boost jab rates among the young.

Entertainment venues in England would be forced to make customers use so-called vaccination passports from autumn, to prove that they had either had both doses or a negative test the day before. Recent figures have shown a reduction in the take-up of vaccines with first doses halving in two weeks. Fewer than 100,000 a day are being given out on average for the first time since April.

Vaccine passport plan 'will be fourth lockdown' for pubs

Image

Pubs, bars and other venues will close down if mandatory Covid vaccine passports are imposed this autumn, hospitality leaders have warned.

The Government is planning to require entertainment venues in England to demand proof of both jabs for entry or a negative test the day before through Covid status certificates later this year, according to The Times.

It would be designed to tackle stalling vaccine take-up, with fewer than 100,000 first doses being administered each day, on average, for the first time since April.

But Kate Nicholls, head of UKHospitality, said it was "not appropriate" as this would “effectively be a fourth lockdown” for thousands of firms.

“You would be putting door control on every pub, bar, restaurant, coffee shop, hotel, nightclub and music venue in the country [to check certificates] and that’s simply not happening at the moment," she told Sky News.

“You would see high levels of business failure, high levels of business closure unless there was substantive Government support.”

She said there was no appetite for Covid certificates among business owners, and they “shouldn’t be necessary” for the economy given more than 86 per cent of UK adults have had at least one vaccine.

Pure coercion to get the youngsters to take it. I'll bet that the 'passport' comes to nothing.

Johnson and his cronies continue to try to divide society.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.

Israeli data seems to show COVID vaccine protection starts fading after 6 months
Most of the vaccinated people who have been recently infected got the shot around January, figures given to Health Ministry show; some caution it’s too early to draw conclusions

Pfizer's response was to tell people to take booster jabs every few months for the rest of their lives! :clown:

People warned not to exercise after second dose of Pfizer

Image

People are being warned not to exercise after receiving their Pfizer covid vaccine due to risk of heart inflammation.

Heart inflammation has been identified as an "extremely rare" side-effect of both the Pfizer and Moderna Covid vaccines.

The risk comes specifically from exercising within 48 hours of receiving the second dose.

Researchers found that both inflammation of the heart muscle, known as myocarditis, and inflammation of the heart's fluid-filled sac, known as pericarditis, have occurred particularly in men under 40, reports Wales Online.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) stated: "Healthcare professionals should be alert to the signs and symptoms of myocarditis and pericarditis.”

"Vaccinated individuals should be advised to seek immediate medical attention should they experience new onset of chest pain, shortness of breath or symptoms of arrhythmia."

Myocarditis and pericarditis will be officially listed as side-effects in the UK and Europe, following the same decision from regulators in the US last month.

Oh dear, I think alarm bells might be beginning to ring...

60% of people being admitted to UK hospitals had two COVID jabs - adviser

LONDON, July 19 (Reuters) - Britain's Chief Scientific Adviser Patrick Vallance said on Monday that 60% of people being admitted to hospital with COVID-19 have had two doses of vaccine.

"In terms of the number of people in hospital who've been double vaccinated, we know it's around 60% of the people being admitted to hospital with COVID," Vallance said.

Despite which...

Two jabs needed to enter nightclubs from September

Image

People attending nightclubs and other venues where large crowds gather in England will need to be fully vaccinated from the end of September, the government says.

Currently nightclubs and other crowded venues are only encouraged to ask clubbers to show proof of vaccination, a negative test result or immunity.

But Boris Johnson said he was concerned by the continuing risk of transmission.

The announcement came on the day nightclubs in England were allowed to reopen after 16 months of closure.

The prime minister told a press conference on Monday: "I don't want to have to close nightclubs again as they have elsewhere. But it does mean nightclubs need to do the socially responsible thing.

"As we said last week, we do reserve the right to mandate certification at any point if it's necessary to reduce transmission.

"And I should serve notice now that by the end of September, when all over 18s have had their chance to be double jabbed we're planning to make full vaccination the condition of entry to nightclubs and other venues where large crowds gather."

Many nightclubs have shut down during the pandemic and the industry reacted angrily to the prime minister's announcement.

"So, 'freedom day' for nightclubs lasted around 17 hours then," said Michael Kill, boss of the Night Time Industries Association.

"Leaving aside the fact that this is yet another chaotic U-turn that will leave nightclubs who have been planning for reopening for months having to make more changes to the way they operate - this is still a bad idea.

"80% of nightclubs have said they do not want to implement Covid passports, worrying about difficulties with enforcing the system and a reduction in spontaneous consumers, as well as being put at a competitive disadvantage with pubs and bars that aren't subject to the same restrictions and yet provide similar environments."

Boss of UK Hospitality Kate Nicholls called the announcement "a hammer blow" for a struggling industry trying to rebuild.

One major nightclub firm, Rekom UK, which owns 42 venues including chains Pryzm, Bar&Beyond, Eden and Fiction, said clubs had become a political football.

Boss Peter Marks said: "Mandatory Covid passports may make sense one day once the entire adult population has been offered vaccines, but does government really think this threat will entice the 'vaccine wary' to take the vaccine? They will just stay later in the pubs and hold their parties in their houses."

Mark Harper MP, who chairs the Covid Recovery Group of Conservative backbenchers, also criticised the plans, saying the government was "effectively moving to compulsory vaccination."

Speaking in the House of Commons, he called on the government to bring forward the evidence for the policy in September ahead of any vote, saying he didn't think the evidence from pilot schemes supported the idea.
