https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-53324201Can anybody remember one of these "job creation" schemes for young people that served any real purpose and also wasn't massively exploited by unscrupulous employers?

I suspect that this will also result in older workers losing their jobs for the sake of the younger ones.
I remember when I worked at a locally well known research centre. We needed some labour to help us clear out a lot of old rubbish. There was a youth scheme in operation at the time. Guess where we drew the labour from? It cost us very little, but what did the lads get out of it?

I remember Webster's closed their woolens shop on Spon Street, making two employees redundant (a mother and daughter) then cynically opening a new branch in the Lower Precinct staffed entirely by YOP kids. The elder of the two former employees never worked again while the other found a job in the grey economy.
