COVENTRY MESSAGE BOARD

I am absolutely disgusted at the treatment handed out to a soldier who called in to his local Co-op store to
buy some beer after a long & ardous journey from Afghanistan & was refused service because he was in uniform
What would happen if the two individual staff members had to request a visit from the local police & they turned up in uniform
As the saying goes "You could not make it up" !!!!
Going to local Co-op in my Boy Scouts uniform & see what reaction I get

Totally agree Stevie, it was outrageous.

This will do a lot of damage to the Co-ops image, and will definitely hit them where it hurts.

It does seem a silly rule - not sure if it applies to just the Co-op or all major stores

Is that the law of the land or just a Co-op rule? I ask because this particular story ran on many of the forces discussion boards that I frequent and most were really annoyed at the guys treatment.

It all appears rather confused as the Co-op seems to have backed down admitting it made a mistake?

FWIW, it certainly was offence to serve a police officer alcohol whilst in uniform at one time.(EDIT It might not be an offence any longer)

When an employee asks a 70 year old man for identification when purchasing an item in a store, as reported in the press recently, it defies comprehension
particularly when the store management has to issue an apology on behalf of the store employee which says that the employee does not know company rules and is making them up as they go along !!!
I have seen service personnel, in uniform by the the way, being served alchohol in supermarkets so statement by somebody who worked in retail does not bear credence

You have to look over 25 at Morrisons so I always tell a new cashier that I'm "over 25" which is hilarious as I don't look a day under 50
