The number of people killed in road traffic accidents in Coventry has risen almost sixfold in just 12 months.

The shocking increase was revealed in new data from the Department of Transport.

It shows 17 people were killed on Coventry’s roads in 2018 - up from just three in 2017.

The increase in the number of deaths in Coventry contrasts sharply with the national picture, which saw a decrease in 2018 compared to 2017.

The number of serious road accidents in the city also rose by 20% over the same period.

In 2018, 142 people were seriously hurt or killed on Coventry’s roads, up from 118 in 2017.

The overall number of casualties - including those only slightly injured - dropped slightly from 830 in 2017 to 784 in 2018.

Nationally, there were 1,782 road deaths in 2018, representing a one per cent decrease from 2017.

With the amount of drugs being taken in the city I'm not surprised.

The decline in the standard of driving is alarming, as is the decline of good manners and general decency of road users. Some areas of the city seem far worse: the Foleshill Road is particularly bad with 'no right turn' instructions being ignored by many, and many drivers think nothing of doing a 3 (5 or 7) point turn in the road causing delays and frustration to others.

IMO, things won't improve until we start seeing police patrolling the roads in much greater numbers, and some of the miscreants removed from behind the wheel.
Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
