Here's more proof you don't need to spend a fortune to get the best when it comes to festive food and drink.

For the second year, Aldi's Christmas pudding has topped Good Housekeeping's annual taste test.

The Specially Selected Golden Topped Christmas Pudding beat 32 other products to the title, including puddings from Marks & Spencer and Selfridges.

This year's judging panel praised the aroma of the Aldi product, saying the alcohol flavour was nicely balanced with the orange marmalade, nuts and fruit.

Priced at just £7.99 for 907g, Aldi's was also one of the cheapest puddings among those tested.

There were four runners-up in this category, with Aldi's slightly more expensive Specially Selected Exquisite Vintage Christmas pudding (£9.99 for 907g) commended for moist but crunchy texture.

The Best Pedro Ximénez Sherry & Pear Christmas pudding from Morrisons (£8 for 800g) was also ranked highly, along with the Marks & Spencer Collection 12 Month Matured Vintage Christmas pudding (£14 for 800g) and the Selfridges Selection Traditional Christmas pudding (£11.99 for 450g).

Winner: Aldi Specially Selected Golden Topped Christmas Pudding (80/100), £7.99

Runners up: Aldi Specially Selected Exquisite Vintage Christmas Pudding (78/100), £9.99

Marks & Spencer Collection 12 Month Matured Vintage Christmas Pudding (78/100), £14

Morrisons The Best Pedro Ximénez Sherry and Pear Christmas Pudding (78/100), £8

Selfridges Selection Traditional Christmas Pudding (77/100), £11.99

Aldi's Christmas pudding was one of 316 items tested across 16 categories this year, including pigs in blankets, vegetarian alternatives and vintage port.

Other categories in this year's taste test included champagne (under £40), prosecco (under £15), smoked salmon, frozen turkeys, stuffing, cranberry sauce, brandy butter, stilton, port, mince pies, mulled wine and Christmas cake.

New categories included vegetarian alternatives, vegetarian stuffing and pigs in blankets.

Christmas Decorations were in most shops end week in September first week in October then the Christmas selection boxs also Advent calenders pathetic imo just proves our government has taken any thing exciting out of our lives on our streets and entertainment that they have to replace it with shops selling months in advance to give us some thing to look foward to so far away to fill their coffers with tax and fill the shops coffers.

The same website is recommending Morrison's icing-sugar topped mince pies which I thought were absolutely disgusting so I'd treat their Xmas Pudding tests with great skepticism. (Morrison's regular mince pies are just fine).

They were playing Christmas songs in Morrison's this evening even though there were hardly any Christmas products on display! :clown:
