Dirty nappies, litter and overflowing bins have blighted the play area

These pictures show the disgusting state of a children’s playground in Henley Green that residents have been complaining about for two years.

Litter, overflowing bins and old nappies dumped on the road left the area unhygienic and unsightly.

The playground opposite Crayfish Close on the Spirit Quarters estate has had a problem with litter for the last two years according to residents and one local politician.

The Spirit Quarters estate is part of a redevelopment project covering Wood End , Henley Green, Manor Farm and Deedmore in North East Coventry.

The area is managed by the main landowner and social housing landlord Whitefriars Housing.

Keepmoat Homes, the development partner, are responsible for the maintenance of the playground.

Councillor for Henley, Ed Ruane, said: “This is an ongoing problem. I have visited the site several times over the last two years. It was a problem then and it still is now.

“Residents have repeatedly complained to Whitefriars and Keepmoat Homes but the area is not being regularly maintained.”

“They built the park yet they are incapable of looking after it.”

He added: “This is an area that kids play in and it’s not good enough. There are people living opposite the park and for them it’s unsightly.

“Litter picks have been carried out maybe once or twice a year but that’s not enough.”

Whitefriars Housing said the area has been cleared since the photos were taken.

A spokesperson said: “We are aware of recent issue with litter on the park area and can confirm that the area was cleaned up by the developers on Saturday, September 2.

“They endeavour to litter pick in the area every fortnight and we are investigating with them as to why there was this level of build up since their last clean up.”

The Telegraph has contacted Keepmoat Homes for a comment.
