"Prosecco doughnuts exist and they're even better than they sound"

Finally, the perfect treat for breakfast and happy hour

Did you know the US has a National Prosecco Day? Well, it does. It's on August 13 if you fancy joining in. But more pressingly, Ruffino Wines has teamed up with The Doughnut Project to create Prosecco doughnuts.

Yes, you read that right. Instead of lifting a glass of bubbly at your next toast, you can raise one of these doughnuts infused with Prosecco.

"For the past two years we have been perfecting our recipes, craft and vision," says Leslie Polizzotto and Troy Neal, who own The Doughnut Project together. "We are very excited to partner with Ruffino to create the Prosecco Doughnut for National Prosecco Day."

These carb-y snacks are right in line with the overall trend toward bubbly-inspired treats, like Prosecco grapes and ice pops, which went viral earlier this year.

As if infusing these doughnuts with Ruffino Prosecco from Italy wasn't enough, they also sprinkled them with edible gold leaf and pink glitter to make them extra fancy.

Sadly, these are "while holidaying in the States" treats only. Prosecco doughnuts are available throughout August at The Doughnut Project in New York's West Village for $4.25 each, which is a little over three quid.

We await the inevitable Brit interpretation with great interest.
