Hazel Carter has written a book about her romance with Denzil Morgan who dresses as a woman called Danielle

Her hair and make-up are immaculate as the mysterious woman poses confidently in the photo Denzil Morgan admires.

It is a favourite snap for his partner Hazel Carter because the lady pictured is happy – her real identity is actually Denzil.

Dressing as a woman is something Denzil has wanted to do since he was 14 but had kept painfully hidden for most of his life.

Now 51, he has found love for the first time with a woman who fully accepts his dual identity as ‘Danielle’.

The couple have been together for two-and-a-half years and have set up home in Coventry with a daft dog the size of a small horse and two cats.

Explaining why he wants to wear women’s clothes, train driver Denzil says: “It’s just something inside that says you’ve got to do this and I don’t know what it is.

“It’s something that doesn’t go away. You could bin everything but the inner need simply stays with you and you will go back to it.

“When I’m Danielle I’m a lot happier, everybody who sees me dressed says the same thing. I think to an extent it’s because I’m not hiding her any more. I’d spent years and years hiding it.

“Initially it was quite daunting to tell your friends, ‘I’ve known you 20-odd years, how am I going to tell you?’ You worry how people are going to react.

“There are so many guys out there that are keeping it behind closed doors hiding this from their girlfriend or wife because they’re frightened what they could lose.

“I didn’t think I’d find anybody like Hazel that could accept both sides of me.”

Hazel says: “For the first two months of us being with each other Denzil would say ‘what did I do to deserve you?’”

“She’s a very rare breed,” says Denzil.

Hazel, who’s a gran and mum-of-two, says: “I didn’t set out to find a guy who would dress as a woman, it just happened that way.”

“But we work,” says Denzil.

“We’re mature enough, we’re not hurting anybody and if it fulfils his need then it doesn’t matter,” adds Hazel.
