COVENTRY MESSAGE BOARD

Coventry has a patchy history on recycling but it's reputation isn't helped when Coventry businesses shirk their responsibilities. Since February, retail businesses selling more than the equivalent of around 4 packs of AAA batteries a day (32kg batteries per year) have been obliged to provide free recycling collection points on-site. Despite the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations not all large shops in Coventry are meeting their environmental protection responsibilities. After some investigation, I've discovered that enforcement is the responsibility of the VCA (not Trading Standards or the City Council). Please, if you are refused free recycling of portable batteries I urge you to report it to the VCA battery team on 0844 8000 819 or email batteries@vca.gov.uk

I can't remember every seeing a recycling point for batteries? Maybe it's because I was unaware until now there was any such thing?

I have noticed recycling points for batteries in some of the bigger stores, but I didn't realise that it was now a legal requirement
