read in the telegraph about st peters church in charles street have been turned into flats. Now I no the the church has not been used since 2000 but the thing that disgust me is that they moved all the head stones in the graveyard and lined them up on the wall then bulldozed all the tree's and land to make it look nice, now I hav'nt been to have a look in over a year but I bet your bottom dollar the graveyard is not there . If im wrong I do apologise but im defo going to get cremated when my time is up.

The same happened to the Cathedral graveyard which used to be where Priory Street and the Lanchester is now. Also St Thomas of which there is now no trace at all.

In the case of St Michael's Church (as it then was), bones from the cemetery were unceremoniously dumped on Gosford Green to allow Priory Street to be constructed!

The building which is now the Four Provinces was constructed directly over a mass grave from a nearby chapel, hence "Chapelfields". it was officially a leper colony but was probably used to dump corpses from the Black Death, being outside the city boundary. The area hadn't changed much when I lived there as a teenager!
