Stratford’s wealthy Tory MP, Nadhim Zahawi, made the claim for the adhesive as part of the £153,000 in expenses he claimed back from taxpayers in 2014/15.

Conservative Jeremy Wright, who earns almost £190,000-a-year for his roles as Kenilworth MP and Attorney General, recouped 90p from taxpayers after driving from Kenilworth Library to Kenilworth Castle to watch the Kenilworth Round Table firework display.

Mr Wright also demanded 45p was repaid after travelling half-a-mile to visit a constituent in his car, and another 90p after travelling one mile to Kenilworth School.

The QC also claimed back £932 for hotel room bookings during the year.

The figures have been published by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority and show that MPs in Coventry and Warwickshire claimed back a total of £1.45million from taxpayers between 2014/15.

Former Conservative MP for North Warwickshire Dan Byles had the biggest claims bill in the region, clawing back £193,687 including £1 for parking at a meeting and £2.25 for a short five-mile return journey. The lowest total came from Labour’s Coventry South MP Jim Cunningham who billed for £130,141.

Labour’s Coventry North West MP Geoffrey Robinson spent £499 on a replacement I-Pad, as well as £240 on an office chair and £3,406 on stationery as part of his total £166,022 of claims.

Former Coventry North East MP for Labour, Bob Ainsworth, claimed £133,187 - including £480 in removal costs as he cleared out his Westminster office at the end of his 23-year stint as an MP.

Conservative MP for Rugby, Mark Pawsey, claimed £495 for a flight from Birmingham to Edinburgh as part of his £167,885 bill.
