Garden shop owner charges Tory customers an extra 10%

A garden shop owner is tagging on ten per cent to any customer who voted Conservative in the General Election.

A blackboard outside the Woodruffs Yard in Lewes, East Sussex, explains the ‘Tory Tax’ is as a result of ‘tough decisions I need to make to balance the books’.

It also adds that those who voted Ukip not to enter.

The sign has attracted criticism and owner Matt Woodruff says he has been bombarded with hate mail.

But despite this he says the sign is here to stay.

Mr Woodruff said: ‘The only bad reaction I’ve had were one Tory couple and a couple of people from Ukip.

‘I don’t really care about the repercussions. I don’t earn a fortune and this might be the death of my business but so be it. Sometimes you have to just stand up and say what you believe in.

‘A lot of us feel that Labour lost because they were not left-wing enough, we think it would be a mistake for them to become more centrist.

‘My family are very pleased, my son especially. We’re a socialist household, and we feel it’s time to stand up.’
