More and more Coventry women are ending up in hospital after drinking too much, new figures showThe number of women in Coventry hospitalised for alcohol abuse has nearly doubled over the past five years.
The alcohol admission rate for women rose 96.5% from 860 per 100,000 women, or 1,260 admissions, in 2007/08 to 1,690 per 100,000, or 2,480 admissions, in 2012/13, according to figures from the Health and Social Care Information Centre.
This was one of the biggest rises in England over the period, and two-and-a-half times the increase for England as a whole.
Figures are based on the number of primary and secondary diagnoses for conditions that are wholly or partly attributable to alcohol abuse.
