Reduce your junk mail with Warwickshire Waste Partnership

Warwickshire Waste Partnership is encouraging residents to help reduce junk mail by signing up to the Mailing Preference Service.

It’s quick and easy to register for the service online at http://www.mpsonline.org.uk, by phone on 0845 703 4599, or by writing to: Mailing Preference Service, FREEPOST (LON20771), London, W1E 0ZT.

Cllr Alan Cockburn, Warwickshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Sustainable Communities and Chair of the Warwickshire Waste Partnership, said: “The amount of junk mail we get through our doors is crazy. Warwickshire residents are able to take action and reduce waste simply by registering with the Mailing Preference Service.

“Households also need to remember to sign back up to the service every couple of years to make sure the junk mail does not start coming back through the letterbox.”

Other tips from the county’s waste partnership to help further reduce the amount of junk mail include:

· Tick the opt out box when filling in product warrantees, competitions and catalogue forms to ensure details are not passed to other companies
· Choose not to have names shown on the public copy of the electoral role as it is sold to mailing firms
· Ask the Royal Mail not to deliver unaddressed mail by writing to: Freepost RSTR-YCYS-TGLJ, Royal Mail Door to Door Opt Outs, Kingsmead House, Oxpens Road, OXFORD, OX1 1AA, or email: optout@royalmail.com
· Place a “No Junk Mail” sticker on your letterbox to discourage delivered junk mail
· Request to be taken off the Yellow Pages mailing list by calling Yell on 0800 6714444
