More than £15m is to be spent rolling out superfast broadband across Coventry and Warwickshire.
In a bid to boost the city’s broadband offer for both business and private users Coventry City Council has approved a £2.55m investment into its broadband infrastructure in order to bring the city up to speed.
The council’s investment is set to unlock an overall package of £15million-worth of grants across Coventry and Warwickshire and will enable 8,000 locations – a mix of business and residential - to be able to connect to superfast broadband. Warwickshire County Council will also seek match the funds.
The investment will lever in £2.55million of European Regional Development funding, £4.3million of Growth Deal funding and £1.1million-worth of private sector funds.
The project will be completed by the established Coventry, Solihull, Warwickshire Broadband Project (CSW Broadband).
So basically, the taxpayer is funding investment which BT is supposed to be making.
