Poundland has added a bit of extra spice to its shelves - cut-price sex toys

Stores are selling £1 vibrators to saucy shoppers who like to get a buzz out of saving money.

The ‘Playful Vibrating Bullet’ is widely available at stores across the region and can be found alongside lubricating jelly and condoms on Poundland’s shelves.

A Poundland spokesman said the discount chain was not able to confirm precisely which stores in Coventry and Warwickshire were selling the 5.1-inch vibrator but said it was “sold in most stores” and had been available since 2013.

It is believed the item was launched initially in a small number of stores before being distributed more widely throughout Poundland’s 900-plus stores in the UK.

The shelves displaying the Vibrating Bullet carry a warning that it is company policy not to sell it to under-18s.

It has also been featured on Channel 4’s Sex Box programme, with sexologist Goedele Liekens describing it as “no different to something that you would pay about a hundred pounds for”.

Poundland has three stores in Coventry - in Market Way, Hertford Street and the Central Six Retail Park.

It also has stores in Nuneaton, Kenilworth, Leamington, Rugby and Stratford.

A Poundland spokesperson said: “Poundland launched the bullet in August 2013.

“Alongside the bullet the range also includes various lubricants and three pack Durex and Sure 12 pack condoms, all at its famous £1 price point.

“Poundland is a responsible retailer and encourages safe sex.”
