There are more smiles and fewer frowns today, according to a survey which asked people to rate their current situation on factors such as happiness and life satisfaction.

And the final figures from the Office of National Statistics’ Personal Well-being survey showed that Coventry had an average rating out of ten of 7.23 this year for happiness compared to 7.0 in 2011/12.

More than two-thirds of people (69.38 per cent) rated their happiness levels at seven or above, with a meagre 7.85 per cent giving a score of four or lower.

Life satisfaction received a boost with average marks in Coventry of 7.36 for 2012/13 against last year’s stats of 7.11, with more than three-quarters of those surveyed giving an answer of seven or higher out of ten.

The good vibes just kept on coming with the people of Coventry rating how worthwhile their lives are as 7.6 out of ten - up from 7.26 the year before - while anxiety was down from 3.02 to 2.95.

Across the border in Warwickshire the positive pattern continued with each of the five separate areas - Stratford, Warwick, Rugby, Nuneaton and Bedworth, and North Warwickshire all seeing a rise in the levels of happiness.

Stratford saw the biggest rise, and also took the title of happiest place in the county, with an average response of 7.5 out of ten, up from 7.08.

Rugby and Warwick both came in at 7.43, Nuneaton and Bedworth at 7.28 and North Warwickshire at 7.22.
