Beer goggles are a myth, claims new study

A new study has suggested that there is no such thing as 'beer goggles'.



Results show that while some parts of the brain shut down when we have had too much to drink, the areas that control our sexual urges keep working.

This means that the amount of alcohol we consume has no bearing on how attractive we find another person, reports Metro.

The study, conducted by Dr Amanda Ellison of the psychology department of Durham University, goes against previous studies that have suggested a person would be more likely to be attracted to someone if they were drunk.

Ellison explained: "There is no imagined physical transformation - just more desire.

"Hangovers are caused by dehydration - the brain shrinks and tugs on the meninges.

"But before that, alcohol switches off the rational and decision-making areas of the brain while leaving the areas to do with sexual desire relatively intact.
