Coventry binmen on a work-to-rule?

Wed Jun 30, 2010 8:43 pm

Has anyone heard or read anything about this?

They were incredibly late emptying the bins this afternoon. The local primary school had already closed and I assumed they wouldn't be coming today. It also looked as if they were checking the contents of each bin before emptying them but I could have been mistaken?

they have changed their route on a Thursday. They used to empy my brown lid bin about 8.10am but now it is mid morning. The other 2 bins seem to get emptied at all different times of day. I have noticed that they look into the bins now. I haven't heard of a work to rule though. Maybe they just changed every route?

They changed our collection time on Wednesday a couple of weeks ago - used to be around 7 / 7.30 am for the green bins but now they come late morning / early afternoon.

I love the way they block the pavements with the bins once they are emptied - great for people with mobility problems!

Did ours this morning, no checking, it just went straight up on the wagon.

They totally ignored my bin (and possibly some neighbours' bins last week). It wasn't overloaded or anything. I didn't complain but it's possible some of the neighbours did.

This week, one of the binmen had a green sheet in his hand which he was reading from. Does anyone know if this was a special instruction from the council to make sure the bins here were emptied this time?

When I was up in Coventry a couple of weeks ago I was shocked to see that several bins are permanently left in the street (right in front of Tina's Cafe) in Holbrook Lane. There must have been 6 at least. A couple of the bins hadn't been emptied since BEFORE CHRISTMAS!!!!! The empty ones have occasionally blown into the road. The residents who are responsible for the bins have no pride obviously. It's an eyesore.

Some of the local residents have complained to the Council - and were told the contents of the bins that weren't emptied were classed as 'trade'. Not sure how your system works up there - but someone isn't doing their job obviously. :?

If someone complains that a bin hasn't been emptied the stock council response is to tell them to leave the bin out and it will be collected the "next day". In practice it is invariably the next week before a lorry turns up on the usual collection day which is why I brought mine back in again.

Had our normal and blue lidded recycle bins emptied today, I didn't see anything untoward or out of the ordinary. They just rushed up the street and out again as is usual.
