A peer responsible for standards in the House of Lords who was pictured allegedly taking cocaine with two prostitutes will face no further action due to "insufficient evidence", Scotland Yard has announced.

Baron Sewel of Gilcomstoun resigned as Deputy Speaker of the Lords in July amid claims he took the Class A drug at a sex party.

The House of Lords authorities immediately referred his case to police and dubbed the revelations "shocking and unacceptable".

But the Metropolitan Police said the matter was "now closed" after an investigation failed to turn up enough evidence for a prosecution.

A force spokesman said: "The Metropolitan Police Service launched a criminal investigation into allegations of drug-related offences involving a member of the House of Lords on Monday July 27.

"The investigation, led by officers from the Special Enquiry Team of the Homicide and Major Crime Command, has now concluded.

"Following a review of all the material, including a forensic examination of an address in central London, there is insufficient evidence to proceed with this investigation and the matter is now closed."

The allegations were first made in the Sun on Sunday newspaper.

As usual, one rule for us, one rule for them. :fuming:

The hypocrisy in this country never ceases to amaze me. And we let 'them' get away with it!
