Survey says Coventry is one of the best places to live in the UK

The TotallyMoney.com survey didn't take into account transport, culture and scenery though - and named Burnley top



Coventry is one of the best places to make a living in Britain - better than even Birmingham and London.

A study by online credit comparison site TotallyMoney.com found Coventry to be the 14th best place to earn a living from a financial perspective out of a total of 57 British towns and cities.

The study takes into account factors such as employment rates , average wages, housing costs and the cost of living but does not award points for transport, culture or scenery.

Even impartial observers might be a little surprised by some of the cities that made the top ten, as many might not be considered among the country’s more fashionable living destinations.

Burnley in Lancashire claimed top sport, followed in descending order by Wigan, Barnsley, Mansfield, Blackburn, Telford, Aberdeen, Derby, Sunderland and Peterborough.

Coventry’s commendable 14th place saw it among eight towns and cities across the greater Midlands area to finish ahead of London, which could only claim 52nd spot.

London’s low placing was down largely to high rent prices and living expenses.

Birmingham was 46th while Nottingham was 23rd, Northampton 45th and Leicester 46th.

The coastal town of Hastings was found to be the worst place in the UK to make a living.

Head of brand and communications at TotallyMoney.com Joe Gardiner said: “While scenery, shopping and a nice local pub are all important, people will always want to live in areas where they can be financially secure.

“This research shows us the true financial-health of an area, and that a town which offers high-paying jobs and expensive restaurants won’t necessarily be the best place to make a living."

As a Coventry kid I know Coventry's great, but seriously, this survey....
