TalkTalk's commercial director has announced the imminent launch of the internet service provider's (ISP's) fibre optic broadband offering.

Tristia Clarke stated the product, which will be available as a boost for the company's broadband customers to add on to their accounts, is set to hit the market "soon".

She said it will deliver download speeds of up to 40Mbps and a maximum upload capability of 2Mbps, which she stated will streamline any online activities - such as gaming and streaming content - that require a super-fast connection.

Anyone interested in receiving the service who registers online will be contacted by TalkTalk when it becomes available in their area.

"Whatever your reason for wanting super-fast broadband, we're trying to make it as easy as possible for you," Ms Clarke commented.

The ISP has claimed the product will enable users to experience "no buffering" when downloading films and watching high-definition content from sites such as YouTube and the BBC iPlayer.

Talk talk gets the wooden spoon award for customer service (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ds-newsxml)

They've just "upgraded" me to 24Meg speed. I've not seen one iota of difference!

The actual speed someone gets at home depends on a number of different factors (browser cache, distance from the exchange, server reaction-time (or "ping"), etc. For the average net user it makes very little difference at all. The reason so many companies are jumping on the "ultra-fast broadband" bandwagon is that they need it to provide video-on-demand services for which the customer will be expected to pay extra, over and above the monthly subscription charge.

Your nominal download speed is quite good Rebbonk. 10Mb/s is about the practical limit. Any higher than that and your PC would slow down.

Your upload speed is fairly typical for the UK, ie: useless for anything except text and jpegs.

You ping time is good but not ideal for applications such as online gaming.

This is mine:

I will be fair to TalkTalk, line drop outs have been remarkably better of late.
