Hundreds of residents will be rehoused in the coming year as a major regeneration programme gets underway
Hundreds of residents will be rehoused after it was announced three Coventry tower blocks would be demolished.
Hillfields House, Douglas House and Paul Stacey House, all in Hillfields, will face the bulldozers as part of what Citizen Housing calls 'a major regeneration programme' which will see the buildings taken down over the next three years.
The rehousing programme will begin with Hillfields House next month, followed by Douglas House in December 2026 and Paul Stacey House in October 2027.
Bridget Guilfoyle, Director of Asset Management at Citizen, said: “We recognise this will be a significant change for our customers and communities, and we are committed to supporting every resident through the process.
“These buildings have been home to many people over the years, but we have to balance that history with the need to provide homes that are warmer, more energy efficient and fit for the future.
“Our focus now is on working closely with customers to help them move into homes that meet their needs, while also looking at the long-term future of these sites.”
The housing association says residents have shared concerns about rising heating costs, difficulties keeping homes warm, and the increasing need for repairs.
A spokesman added: "While a range of options were explored, we’ve concluded that refurbishment would not provide the quality, energy efficiency or long-term sustainability we want for our customers.
"It follows our announcement in November that Paradise House in the Foleshill area of Coventry would be demolished and residents rehoused, and that process remains ongoing."
Citizen says residents have been informed of the process.
"Based on previous rehousing projects, the process for each block is expected to take between 18 months and two years," the spokesman added. "Residents have now been contacted with information about the next steps and the support available to them.
"We will explore opportunities to deliver new homes across the sites following demolition. While plans for Douglas House and Paul Stacey House are still at an early stage, work will begin on developing proposals for new homes at the Hillfields House site, alongside the community and our development partners."
